Hibiscus Sabdariffa "Roselle or Karkade" is a tropical annual shrub that is also referred to as Florida cranberry, sour-sour, red sorrel, and Jamaican sorrel. The plant known by its scientific name, Hibiscus sabdariffa, belongs to the Mallow family and is characterized by its funnel-shaped flowers and traditional five petals. Though they are not the part of the flower that is usually consumed, the delicate, creamy yellow petals are edible as well. The fruit that is collected is the succulent, meaty calyx that encircles the seed pod and swells at the base of the flower after it blooms.
